Woodbury Council Preview: Woodbury Drive Expansion, Bielenberg Sports Center Work

Council members are expected to discuss design elements of the County Road 19 expansion project and architectural services for the replacement of the Bielenberg dome.

The Woodbury City Council is set to discuss design options for the during a workshop on Wednesday.

Washington County officials are seeking feedback from the city about the roadwork, which will expand Woodbury Drive from two lanes to four from St. Ambrose Church north to Park Crossing and create dedicated left- and right-turn lanes.

The city and county have agreed upon a few design elements of the project, including roundabouts at Bailey and Lake roads and paths on both sides of the road, according to a council memo.

The memo also states that the city and county agree on keeping Antrim Road a full-access intersection (without a traffic signal, for now) and making Hidden Lake Drive a right-in-right-out intersection.

Because of the narrow right-of-way in the area, , and engineers are considering reduced lane widths.

The council is also expected to discuss landscaping and stormwater management in the area.

Construction is planned for 2013. The project cost is estimated at approximately $9.76 million, with the expected city’s share to be about $3.76 million, according to agenda documents. A majority of the funding for Woodbury’s portion of the project will come from the city’s Municipal State Aid funding.

The council workshop is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at . The council is expected to discuss 2012 roadwork assessments and the proposed 2012 budget.

Woodbury is looking to replace the dome at the with a larger permanent structure at a cost of about $15.5 million.

Wednesday’s discussion will focus on construction and management services.
