Woodbury Honors Late Restaurateur

The owner of Murray's Restaurant—whose Service Ideas, Inc., was based in Woodbury—had a week named in his honor.

Woodbury Mayor Mary Giuliani Stephens said she only met Patrick Murray once.

“Some people make a big impact,” she said, “and he was one of those people.”

The Woodbury City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved a measure naming Aug. 5-11, 2012, as Patrick Murray Remembrance Week in Woodbury.

Murray died July 30, 2012, after a battle with cancer. He was 72.

Known for downtown Minneapolis’ Murray’s Restaurant, Murray kept offices in Woodbury, a family member said outside the council chambers at .

The Lake Elmo resident was the CEO of Service Ideas, Inc., and was instrumental in bringing the company to Woodbury in 1996, according to a council memo.

“He and his family have grown the business over the past sixteen years, recently completing an expansion to the facility, creating jobs and adding tax base to the community,” the memo reads.

The Proclamation

WHEREAS, Patrick Murray, was a second generation owner of Murray's Restaurant and Service Ideas, Inc. and an original inductee of the Minnesota Restaurant Association Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Murray served as Chairman of the Board of Service Ideas, Inc. and was instrumental in bringing the business to Woodbury in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Murray and his family have grown Service Ideas in Woodbury over the past sixteen years, having recently completed an expansion to the facility; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Murray exhibited strong leadership skills in guiding the growth of his business ventures and contributed significantly to the economic well-being of Woodbury, creating jobs and adding tax base to the community; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Murray was a highly valued member of the Woodbury business community, and was passionate about community service and active in many civic organizations and clubs; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Murray passed away on Monday, July 30, following a years-long battle with cancer at the age of 72; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Murray is survived by his wife Joyce and children, Timothy, Christina, Jill, Megan and James; and

WHEREAS, may this proclamation provide an opportunity for the Woodbury Community to pay tribute to the life and legacy of Patrick Murray and to express our deep appreciation for the many contributions Patrick Murray has made.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARY GIULIANI STEPHENS, Mayor of the City of Woodbury, Washington County, Minnesota, do hereby proclaim the week of August 5-11, 2012 to be 

PATRICK MURRAY REMEMBRANCE WEEK
