Woodbury Police Department Gets New Officer

Adam Sack was sworn in during Wednesday night's Woodbury Council meeting.

Woodbury once again has its full compliment of police officers after Adam Sack* was sworn in during Wednesday night’s City Council meeting.

Sack, a Woodbury community-service officer (CSO) for the past two years, secured the job ahead of about 300 other applicants, said Chief Lee Vague.

Vague joked that the carpet in front of his office was worn thin by officers offering their support for Sack during the hiring process.

“Subtle hints like: hire that guy,” Vague said.

Sack, 27, told Patch that he’s looking forward to being a full-fledged officer, though he still has some training ahead of him. He said his time as a CSO gives him advantage in that he already knows the landscape of the city and has been engaged with residents. Vague also lauded Stack's efforts in the department's Peer COR program.

“I’m really looking forward to getting out there and serving Woodbury,” Sack said.

Vague said the hiring of Sack brings the number of officers in Woodbury back up to 65 following the retirement of another cop.

It’s a testament to the Woodbury City Council’s commitment to its Public Safety Department that the city was able to rehire for the position, Vague said.

“There are a lot of (police departments) that aren’t able to do that,” he said.

One moment that drew laughter throughout the council chambers: Vague asked who would be willing to pin Sack’s badge on him. A youngster jumped forward and yelled, “I’ll do it.”
