Woodbury Skate Park Set to Reopen in August

The city plans to begin construction the week of July 16.

No, Woodbury has not outlawed skateboarding.

But if you’ve been missing the skate park at , it’s because the city is replacing the equipment this summer.

The tentative project schedule is below:

  • Currently the project is out to bid; bidding closes on July 2.
  • Construction is expected to start the week of July 16.
  • The revamped skate park will open the week of Aug. 20, weather permitting.

Action Sport Design has worked up some concept plans for the new skate park. See the city’s website for more information on how to check out the plans (select the “Skate Park” tab).

As the parent of a son that loves to skateboard not having a skatepark available this summer has been a big disappointment to all of us. Why did they have to tear the old stuff down so far in advance of construction of the new park? It has been weeks since the old park ramps were removed with no new construction. Poor planning if you ask me, and if you ask my son he thinks it is just plain stupid!

Well since you are a parent and your son loves to skateboard then maybe you should drive him someplace to skate. Everyone should be happy about the new park being built, regardless of how long it takes. People just need to learn to understand and appreciate things. There is a lot of construction going on everywhere lately so just relax and when is done, it will be done.

Just got word from the city: The project schedule has been pushed back. It’s not expected to open until sometime in October.

Got a little additional background: There was a delay in obtaining the steel needed for the project, and construction was put on hold during Woodbury Days.
