Woodbury Swears in New Police Officer

Brad Roddy is the 117th officer in the city's history.

Out of 270 applicants, Woodbury chose Brad Roddy as its newest police officer.

Roddy was sworn in during a ceremony at Wednesday night’s Woodbury City Council meeting.

He comes to Woodbury from Mankato, where he was a police officer, continuing a family tradition—his father is a retired cop and both of his brothers are officers as well.

At a reception following the swearing-in ceremony, Roddy told Patch he became a cop because a constantly changing environment suits his personality. He said he does his best work simply talking to people.

He said he chose Woodbury because of its .

“That’s the best of both worlds for me,” he said. “And I’m really glad I (picked Woodbury). I’m excited.”

Chief Lee Vague talked about the meaning of the badge and offered a piece of advice for Roddy. Referencing some old photos of shown earlier at the council meeting, Vague said he should never let anyone take his picture.

“It will be used against you at your retirement,” Vague said.
