Woodbury to Consider Establishing Convention and Visitors Bureau

The city plans to work with consultants on a study and bring the findings to the City Council.

As part of its efforts to market and brand the city, Woodbury is considering setting up a convention and visitors bureau.

“It’s another marketing tool to promote Woodbury as a place to hold large-scale regional events,” said Jason Egerstrom, communications coordinator.

The city plans to work with consultants on a study and bring the findings to the City Council, which discussed the idea at a June 26 workshop.

The CVB would be funded through a 3 percent lodging tax at area hotels, and city officials are working with local innkeepers to gather feedback, Egerstrom said.

If Woodbury decides to move forward with the initiative, the CVB would be a separate entity from the city, though Woodbury officials would likely have a place on the organization’s board of directors, Egerstrom said.

Once the expansion project is completed, the Bielenberg Sports Center could be a good spot to host large functions like the Woodbury Community Expo, he said. Central Park, along with the banquet room at Eagle Valley Golf Course, are also places for events.
