Day 1: Juice Feast/Fast

It is time to walk the talk.... I finally began the juice feat I promised myself in January.

I have decided that since I would like to lose 10 pounds per month to reach my goal weight, I will stay on this fast for a minimum of 30 days, but would like to span it out to 120 days. I know that our Memorial Day BBQ I will probably eat some solid fruits & vegetables> no meat. Also, my wedding we will be going out and will most likely have a salad. Fourth of July will be another fruit and vegetable day for me along with my birthday. Other than that, straight juice.

In preparation of starting my juice fast, I have been eating softer foods. Towards the end of the week I will pick up a colon cleanse kit from Walgreens. The reason is simple, clear the toxins stored in my colon for a jump on detoxifying my body. The following week I may also have an ionic foot cleanse to further pull out toxins from my body.

In order to keep myself from being pre-occupied with food, I am staying on a juicing schedule. Prior to leaving work in the morning I will make a fresh breakfast juice and drink at 9am, snack juice at 11:30am, lunch juice at 2pm, snack juice at 4:00pm, then head home to prepare a dinner juice. The first week I will not be cooking dinner as I will want to partake. I have purchased meals for the family so I do not stray.

NOTE: Upon waking up in the morning take 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Within a half hour, drink 1 glass of warm, distilled water.

Day 1 of the Juice fast and we are off to a rough start. I forgot to take my 2 tablespoons of lemon juice with warm distilled water. And, I did not make my own juice this morning; extremely disappointed. I did not let my mistakes keep me from starting the Juice Feast. I opted for the Naked Juice Green Machine with a Smart Water. At noon the smell of food in the area started to make my stomach grumble. The cure: drink water until my “lunch” break where I will drink my filling juice.

By 1:30pm the smell off food emanating from the break room almost had me gnawing off my arm. I continued to drink the Smartwater until the clock said 2pm. 2:07pm and I popped the lid on the Naked Juice; savored for 17 minutes. Do not forget to drink water after drinking juice to prevent tooth decay.

I am so proud of myself. I managed to walk past the treats laid out for everyone. By-passed the pies and cinnamon rolls that decorate the wall on my way to the restroom.

Will power in motion and goals are in sight.

Whew. I almost forgot what it was like to do a fast. Please expect to run to the bathroom every half an hour. This is hardest part in a fast; losing the water weight and needing to constantly use the restroom. Women, please be gentle with yourself because you can become quite raw in the days ahead. I would recommend gentle wipes during the fast.

At 4pm would have been my afternoon snack juice, but I was not hungry. The Naked Juice actually has me burping. I am thinking that I should at least try to drink something other than water, but do nothave the definitive need. Instead I sucked on a butterscotch drop to give me something to taste. Think I can hold out with the water until dinner. If not, I can always go to the little store in our building and grab another Naked Juice.

I was right, I made it to the end of the day without having to have another juice. Now I can’t wait to get home and prepare something fresh versus the subtitute of the Naked Juice.

Kids are a downfall to any diet. Husbands too. On my way home from work I was asked to pick up something to eat: Yangs. By the time I traveled from Minneapolis to Woodbury I was starving. No sooner did I pick up the wings and get into the car, I was reaching for a fresh wing to nibble on. I didn’t even make it out of the parking lot.

Needless to say I topped the wing off with fried rice, pot stickers and a couple more wings. Diet disaster.

Note to self: Drink the 4pm juice even if not super hungry. It is a long drive home.
