Juicing Experience: Day 2

I was ready with the Ninja. That baby ripped through the fruits and vegetables without a problem.

Day two started off much better than Day one.

As soon as I crawled out of the bed I went for the two teaspoons of lemon juice. Then proceeded to get my day started.  Instead of drinking a plain, warm water I opted for an herbal tea with honey; told you plain warm water would be difficult for me.

Nothing like a morning pucker.

I was ready with the Ninja.  We started the day with the Detox Juice.  I fed the Ninja the parsley and celery, then the apples, beet, then carrots.  Even added a water and the Body VI.  That baby ripped through the fruits and vegetables without a problem.

Mr. Man was rushy and it wasn't even 8am.

So he received the juice, and nothing but the juice.

You should have seen his face when he took his first sip.  Priceless.  He said it was bitter.  I told him the beet and apple should have made it sweeter, but apparently not.  Instead of waiting for me to tweek the recipe to make it a little more tolerable, he added lemon juice to his drink?!?  I asked him why he did that and he replied:  I'd rather have it bitter and suffer.  Suffer away.

With the knowledge that the detox drink was a little bitter, I proceeded to add a little more water, another apple and some honey.  It was time for a taste test.

Can you say earthy?

With all the leaves and stems, the drink had the taste of dirt to it; really not what I was expecting.  Plus the texture is was somewhat gritty.  It was not the flavorful Naked Juice, that is for sure.  I am going to slowly sip this drink throughout the day.  My stomach will just have to be mad at me.

I know they want you to use the whole vegetable: skin, leaves and all, but being a novice juicer it will take some time to get use to the flavor.  On the next juice, I will not only wash my vegetables, but prepare them just as I would cook them: no leaves, stems, skin, etc.

Mario called me as I was walking out the door for work.  He said it is going to take all day to finish his one drink; can't get over the flavor.

At 11:30am people started bringing delicious smelling food back to their desks.  My stomach started growling as if it were a lioness hunting down its prey.  Then the people sitting by me started to discuss food; best place to get sushi, salads, burgers.  Why today?  They never discuss food unless we have a potluck.  Normally people's lunches smell like crap: garlic, fish, etc.

The day I am drinking dirt everyone has to have delicious smelling foods and talk about it!?!

Around noon, I just could not get past the "earthy" taste and ran down to the store for Naked Juice: Berry Veggie and Mango Veggie.  Promised myself we are going to sample more tolerable recipes, add seasoning, and spices if necessary.  Spices are suppose to be good too, so why not add them to the drink to enhance the flavor?

1pm could not come fast enough.  The Berry Veggie Naked Juice was opened and ready to be savored for the feeding time set.  The Naked Juice: smooth, well balanced veggie-fruit combo.  Why can't the ones made at home be the same?  Wonder if it has to do with the fact that the Ninja is a smoothie/juicer/blender combo versus a straight juicer :/....

I called Mario, he did not answer. I emailed Mario, he did not respond.  I texted Mario and he did not reply.  Either he was mad that he was forced to drink the earthy juice or he cheated.  Which do you think it was?

He finally called me back and said he was slowly drinking the drink and didn't have anything else.  Surprised me too!  How he did it is beyond me.

Mario earned a gold star for today.

At 3:30p I made an herbal tea: Yogi Kava Stress Relief.  I was not really crazy about this tea.  However, it was hot and keept my stomach from snarling at me.  Attempting to push the need for another juice to 4:30p so I have time to go home and make another juice for dinner without my stomach gnawing at my back.  Darn cannibal that it is.

So, Mario called me at 4:30p and said he didn't eat anything all day; just drank the juice.

My stomach is growling like a B****

Guess I better have his dinner juice prepared when he walks through the door.  Bet he would drink anything if I added either Frank's Red Hot or peanut butter cups in it.

Since it is 4:30p I cracked open the Naked Juice Mango and Veggie; anything to get the taste of the tea out of my mouth; left an oily coating and too perfumey for me.  Could taste the Mango and the Corn.  Yet, it was still a good, even combination of vegetables and fruits.  Hope to find awesome juice recipes with the same smooth, even combinations.

Someone please help a novice juicer out with some delicious, detoxifying juice recipes.

Between the winter hibernation and the diet change, I was a little tired.  I came home from work with the pretense of taking a nap and did not wake up until Mr. Man came home around 9:30p.  Guess I wasn't gnawing my arm off.  Of course, Mr. Man's first words was, "I am hungry."  Great, let's juice.

I thought you said we could have a meal at night....

What was was he thinking?  Not.  Then he figured since I had some Chipotle last night he could get some real food tonight.  However, he let it slip that he had two pieces of chicken earlier.    He caved in and picked out what he wanted in his juice: cantaloupe and grapes.  I added the addition of organic, gluten-free yogurt, red and green grapes, and three spinach leaves.  When completed, I asked him what he thought of his juice.

You will eat anything when you are starving.

I tasted his beverage and found it to be palatable.  :)  So I opted to drink the other 17 ounces.

Day two was a success.

To keep it simple and less earthy, I started researched food combinations for our detoxification.  I stuck with simple recipes and tips; such as, add the spinach leaves to Mario's smoothie.  Spinach leaves can be added to any smoothie or drink and the flavor will not be that noticeable.

If anyone has any novice juicer suggestions, please share.
