Brief: Info Session For Prospective School Board Candidates Set For Thursday

Voters will determine who will fill the three positions currently held by Leslee Boyd (Woodbury), Jim Gelbmann (Woodbury) and Ron Kath (Cottage Grove) in the November election.

Those interested in running for the District 833 School Board are invited to attend an informational session from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4.

The program will be held in the Board Room of the District Service Center, 7362 E. Pt. Douglas Road S., in Cottage Grove.

Superintendent Mark Porter and other officials will be on hand to talk about South Washington County Schools and summarize the district’s new strategic plan (Pathway to Excellence), a snapshot of the district’s financial status and student achievement results.

Candidates must file a notarized affidavit of candidacy between, Aug. 2 and Aug. 16.

Packets containing information about becoming a board member, affidavit of candidacy, campaign manual from the Secretary of State and filing information are available at the District Service Center weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The final deadline for filing will be Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 5 p.m. at the District Service Center. There is a $2 filing fee (cash only).

Candidates must be eligible voters and at least 21 years of age by Jan. 1, 2012. Candidates also must be residents of the school district for at least 30 days prior to the election.

The election will be held Nov. 8.
