College Grads, Scholars from Woodbury

Eleven high school seniors from Minnesota, including Patrick Krile of Woodbury, have been awarded the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship, a full tuition and housing college scholarship, beginning this fall.

Evans Scholars are golf caddies who were selected based on four criteria: a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years and is valued at more than $70,000.

Zachary Daniel Moore, of Woodbury, was among nearly 1,700 University of Nebraska-Lincoln to be recognized April 22 in conjunction with the All-University Honors Convocation.

Moore, a sophomore in the College of Business Administration, was honored as a High Scholar.

Chad Cadwell, of Woodbury, was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls College of Business and Economics annual awards program April 23.

Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International.

Philip Burnham, from Woodbury, was named to the Dean's List at Villanova University for the fall 2011 semester. Burnham is enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Mara Stewart, of Woodbury, participated in the 12th annual UW System Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on April 27.

Jacob Youngblood, of Woodbury, recently served as a student ambassador at the American Resort Development Association World Conference in Las Vegas.

Youngblood is majoring in business administration; hotel, restaurant and tourism in the School of Hospitality Leadership at University of Wisconsin-Stout.

was one of four local high schools selected to have student artwork featured in the ninth annual High School Honors Exhibition, May 10-23, at Concordia University, St. Paul.

Student excellence awards at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire recently were presented to students, including Dana B. Kuehn, of Woodbury, who earned an Outstanding Graduate Student award for the College of Education and Human Sciences.

Kuehn received a university medallion and a scholarship award.

The cadets and cadre of the Northwoods Battalion of the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) held a Spring Commissioning Ceremony on May 13 at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Among the honorees was Kristin Glanz, of Woodbury, who will become a Transportation Officer/Minnesota National Guard.

Glanz is a history and criminal justice major. Upon commissioning, she became a transportation officer in the Minnesota National Guard in HSC 834 ASB 34th CAB. She will attend Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Lee, Va.

“ROTC as taught me to be confident in all I do and to teach others how to incorporate good leadership qualities into everyday life,” Glanz said in a release.

Bethel University senior Zac Schlegel, of Woodbury, was one of eight men sent to the prestigious Drake Relays—a five-day invitational that brings in 30,000 athletes from around the globe.

Schlegel (pictured) participated in the 4x400 dash. The university’s relay team ran a time of 3:20.66 to finish 20th out of 29 teams. The time is three seconds slower than their season best.

The last relay Schlegel and three other Royals participated in was the distance medley relay, a 1200, 400, 800, and a 1,600 for a total 4,000 meters, or 10 laps around the track. The team's race earned them a fourth-place finish out of 21 teams and a new school record. The distance medley relay was the third oldest record and was set in 1983 at 10:13.64. Schlegel and his teammates improved that mark by 15 seconds with a time of 9:58.85.

Woodbury native Sydney Hase received a BS degree during the 156th Commencement held May 12 on the campus of Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. Hase majored in mathematics.

Two students from Woodbury recently graduated from Creighton University.

Macy Mauer earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree (cum laude).

Elizabeth Portner earned a doctor of pharmacy degree (with honors).

Four students from Woodbury made the spring 2012 dean’s list at Michigan Technological University with GPAs of 3.5 or better. They are:

• Kelsey Whalen, Materials Science and Engineering
• Paul Zimmerman, Mechanical Engineering
