Dead Students Walking: East Ridge Warning on Drunk Driving

Woodbury police partner with school's SADD group for first time on "Grim Reaper" day.

There were somber moments Thursday at East Ridge High School.

The Woodbury school’s Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) group held its annual “Grim Reaper” day, in which certain students are excused from part of one period and cannot talk the rest of the day.

Some had on makeup that made them look like a dead person and wore shirts reading: “I was killed by a drunk driver.”

East Ridge, which has held the event over the past few years, partnered with the Woodbury Police Department for the first time this year.

Officers briefly spoke to students about the dangers of drinking and driving during class Thursday.

“The classroom was very somber,” said Woodbury traffic officer Scott Melander. “I think the message got delivered quite well.”
