District 833 to Accept Applications for New School Board Member

Current Chair Leslee Boyd announced her resignation on Thursday.

In the wake of District 833 School Board Chair Leslee Boyd’s resignation, South Washington County Schools will look for a replacement member to assume the role until the 2013 election.

The South Washington County School Board will appoint a new person to the seven-member body. Following interviews (dates have not been set), the board is expected to make the appointment at its Dec. 20 meeting.

Applications will be accepted at the District Service Center, attn: Mary Amidon, 7362 E. Pt. Douglas Road S., Cottage Grove, MN 55016, until 4 p.m., Monday, Nov. 26.

Those interested are asked to submit a letter of intent and résumé. According to the district, the letter of intent should address:

  • why the individual wishes to serve on the school board;
  • what strengths he/she would bring to the school board;
  • identify the three most pressing issues the district is currently facing; and
  • describe previous professional/volunteer activities with the school district and community.

Applicants must be 21 years old or older at the time the term of office begins, reside in the school district for at least 30 days, be an eligible voter (citizen of the U.S.), and not have been convicted of an offense (registration of predatory offenders) as detailed in state statute 243.166.

The final process and timeline will be posted on the district’s website.

The appointed person will begin her or her duties on Jan. 1, 2013, for a term that will expire at the end of the day on Nov. 5, 2013 (Election Day).
