DJ Hurls 'Mop Bucket' Insult at Woodbury High

MN Education Commissioner Casselius slammed KDWB's Dave Ryan for making light of 'serious issues facing young people.'

Woodbury High School got caught up in a Twin Cities radio personality's free-ranging series of insults on Twitter Tuesday that prompted a response from a top state official.

Among dozens of other messages aimed at Minnesota schools and cities, KDWB's Dave Ryan tweeted: "Woodbury High School. Where peeing in mop buckets is an extracurricular activity."

Minnesota Commissioner of Education Brenda Casselius said in a statement:

“We can never underestimate the power of words and their impact on others, especially children. As a parent, an educator and the state’s education commissioner, I find it troubling that anyone—especially an adult—would use social media or any platform to make light of serious issues facing young people or to perpetuate stereotypes.

"This is the kind of behavior that we teach our children is wrong.

"Our schools have worked hard to create academically rich, safe and welcoming environments where children thrive and are free from bullying.

"While the Department of Education appreciates the work we have done collaboratively with Clear Channel Communications to promote literacy, we have asked them to pull all Department of Education sponsored public service announcements from their stations.”
