East Ridge High School Student Loses Battle Against Leukemia

After a courageous battle against leukemia, Ann Hearing passed away on Sunday evening.

After a hard-fought, four-year battle against leukemia, student Ann Haering died on Feb. 20, 2011.

Principal Aaron Harper said the school implemented its crisis plan today, and will continue to provide support for students and staff.

“First and foremost, we have to remember everyone grieves differently, so as we move forward with our school crisis plan, we also tap in to our community resources such as HSI and Youth Service Bureau, to help assist those who are grieving,” said Harper. Haering's story is unique and inspiring, Harper said.

“What I will remember most about Ann is that she was such an optimist, approaching everything from the positive side of things,” Harper said. “The other thing I will remember most about her was her genuine and infectious smile. Her smile lit up a room."

Harper added that it has been great to see the Woodbury community come together as one, and support Ann and her family, during her fight against leukemia.

“When we all come together as one, so much can be done,” he said.

Within the next couple of days, Harper said ERHS will be posting any updates and  resource information for those who are grieving on its website.
