AUTHOR TEMPLE GRANDIN AND TOP COMPANIES TO LEAD AUTISM SOCIETY OF MINNESOTA EVENT ON EMPLOYING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Corporate employment executives, service providers, people with autism spectrum disorder and parents will converge on 3M Company’s headquarters in February for a conference on employment sponsored by the Autism Society of Minnesota.  Celebrated author Temple Grandin, a college professor and authority on animal behavior, will headline the event, which will also feature presentations from human resources executives with 3M, Cargill and Best Buy.

Sherrie Kenny, the executive director of the Autism Society of Minnesota, said the event in Maplewood will focus on promoting employment opportunities for people with autism spectrum disorder, including hiring, nurturing and retaining talented individuals with disabilities.

“This conference will highlight the strategies and solutions involved in helping people with autism and other disabilities become accepted and contributing members of the nation’s workforce, and the creative efforts pioneered by some of our leading companies,” said Kenny.

The conference, Autism and Employment, is slated for February 17, 2011, and will feature a main presentation, offered in both the afternoon and the evening, and an optional luncheon with experienced counselors on autism issues and a private dinner meeting with Dr. Grandin.
