Sen. Klobuchar to Appear at Domestic Abuse Roundtable

Washington County Attorney Pete Orput recently announced that U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar will be on hand for a Domestic Abuse Roundtable discussion at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 31, in the county Board Room at the Washington County Government Center in Stillwater.

The Domestic Abuse Roundtable will focus on the Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP), an innovative program in use by all of Washington County law enforcement agencies. Briefly, the LAP is a methodology for a public safety officer responding to a domestic situation to assess, by asking selected questions, the present and likely future danger faced by the domestic abuse victim, and to suggest likely supportive resources consistent with mitigating that danger.

Participating in the roundtable, along with Klobuchar and Orput, will be Washington County District Judge Elizabeth Martin, Washington County Sheriff Bill Hutton, Oakdale Police Chief Bill Sullivan, Assistant County Attorney Karin McCarthy,  Beverly Dusso, President of Tubman Family Alliance, Nicky Gillett, Director of Legal Services for Tubman Family Alliance, Tom Adkins, Director of Washington County Community Corrections, and Sandra Hahn, Deputy Director of Washington County Community Corrections.

Orput said, “I am excited that such a sterling group of dedicated and knowledgeable professionals have been assembled to discuss such an important issue as domestic violence and the criminal justice system’s response to it. This roundtable should provide much food for thought and future action.”
