Suicide Prevention Collaborative Event (Lake Elmo)

The Suicide Prevention Collaborative of the East Metro Area (SPC) will host a community event “Not My Kid – A Community Conversation on Youth Suicide Prevention” 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 28, at Oak-Land Junior High School in Lake Elmo.

The event is free and open to all interested community members, including parents, caregivers, teens, educators, and mental health professionals.

Registration is not required. A resource fair will highlight community resources from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by the presentation from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The speaker will be Maureen Underwood, LCSW CGP, clinical director of Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide. Co-sponsors for this event include SPC, PrairieCare, Washington County Teen Health Fund, and the Chemical Health Action Collaborative in Washington County.

The SPC is a community-based group dedicated to preventing teen suicide in the eastern metropolitan area of the Twin Cities through education, awareness, collaboration, and advocacy.

SPC is committed to increasing awareness about depression and other mental illnesses, the warning signs of suicide and the need for professional treatment. SPC members include representatives from Prairie Care, Washington County Teen Health Fund, Youth Service Bureau, Penticoff Community Counseling, Sentier Psychotherapy, Fuerst Psychological Services, Counseling Psychologists of Woodbury, Central and Priority Pediatrics, Parents, and the Faith Based Health and Wellness Network.
