School Board Set to Choose New Member

A special meeting is planned for Friday, Jan. 4.

The District 833 School Board on Friday will likely choose a new member to replace departing Chair Leslee Boyd, who is moving out of state.

The board previously winnowed the list of candidates for the position from 14 to five, and interviews will be held during a special meeting set for 5:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the District Service Center, 7362 East Point Douglas Road S., in Cottage Grove.

The meeting is open to the public but will not be video recorded.

The five candidates are:

  • Rick Goecke of Cottage Grove
  • Jonathan Hunt of Woodbury
  • Kathleen McElwee-Stevens of Newport
  • Daryl Parks of Woodbury
  • William Thurmes of Cottage Grove

On Friday, there will be a board discussion until 6:15 p.m., followed by the interviews until 8:45 p.m., with a debriefing and possible vote to follow.

The appointed person’s term will expire at the end of the day on Nov. 5, 2013 (Election Day).
