Spanish Instead of Chinese at Liberty Ridge Elementary

The school recently sent out a notice to parents about a change to its world language offering.

Spanish will be taught at in Woodbury instead of Chinese this upcoming school year.

The school recently sent out a notice to parents about the change:

At the end of last year our Mandarin Chinese teachers, Ms. Song and Ms. Liu, sought personal opportunities out of state. Building and district personnel spent months trying to recruit and hire high-quality teachers to replace them. Part of the difficulty is also the state-required licensure for Mandarin teachers.

We truly exhausted all sources of where we have received candidates in the past.

With that said, the board has made it clear of the importance of offering world language exposure in the elementary schools. As a way of being in alignment with many of the other elementary schools in our district, Liberty Ridge will offer Spanish to our students.

This was not an easy decision, but the absence of teaching candidates created a necessity to offer a different language.

Even though the language will be different, I am confident that the quality of world language offering will be just as high for Spanish as it was for Chinese.
