“East Ridge High School exemplifies the innovative programs and policies that are found in South Washington County Schools,” Kent said. “The research-driven change to later start times has led to better test scores, and the implementation of Pre-K throughout the district has led to better kindergarten readiness. Data driven approaches are the key to education innovation in Minnesota. South Washington County’s bold approach in implementing these programs can be taken and applied across the state.

“Minnesota’s future economy will require new approaches in preparing our children," she continued. "The workforce of the future cannot rely on the education of the past. We can use data and research to guarantee every student gets the education they deserve. I’m looking forward to finding ways we can take South Washington County’s methods to the rest of Minnesota.”
