Stranger Approaches Woodbury Elementary Student

Police were investigating the incident, which did not appear to be an attempted abduction, according to a department spokeswoman.

Woodbury police are investigating a report that a stranger approached a student after school Wednesday afternoon near Woodbury Elementary School.

It did not appear that the individual, described as a man in his late teens or early 20s, was trying to abduct the child, said Michelle Okada, Woodbury police spokeswoman. The man startled the student, she said.

“The student is safe at home,” Okada said.

A district spokesperson said the incident happened while the student was walking home.

There are no suspects in the case, but police will continue to investigate and step up patrols before and after school at both Woodbury Elementary and the adjacent Woodbury Middle School, Okada said.

She also spoke with South Washington County Schools officials, who said they would increase staff presence outside during recess.

There have not been any similar reports of late in the city, Okada said.

Those who see anything suspicious are encouraged to call 9-11, she said.
