Students Look Away: Woodbury High School Announces Back-To-School Events

From parking permits to freshman orientation, Woodbury is working to keep students in the loop.

Students at are probably more concerned with their next trip to the beach than back-to-school events.

That didn’t stop the high school from sending out an announcement about a series of back-to-school events coming up this summer.

Driving

Students who drive to school will need a parking permit.

Woodbury High School requires each student who wishes to purchase a parking permit to attend a 20-minute orientation session.

These orientation sessions will be held hourly from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following days in the school’s Lecture Hall.

  • Seniors Only: Monday, Aug. 2.
  • All Students: Wednesday, Aug. 24.

A videotaped copy of the session will be available in the attendance office throughout the school year for any student who wishes to purchase a permit once school has begun or who is unable to attend one of the summer orientation sessions.  A completed parking-permit application (including parent signature) and corresponding fee is required before a permit can be issued.

Photos

Students at Woodbury High School have their pictures taken each year, both for the yearbook as well as for identification badges.

Lifetouch National Studios will be taking pictures of sophomores and juniors from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Freshmen will have an opportunity to have their picture taken on Friday, Aug. 26, during freshman orientation. In addition, if any sophomore or junior is unable to take his/her picture on Aug. 24, they may have their picture also taken on Friday, Aug. 26, but should expect a longer wait.

An order form will be available at school if they wish to purchase school pictures. Seniors do not need to have their picture taken. (A student ID for seniors will be issued using a picture on record from last year.)  Student IDs for seniors can be picked up on one of the parking days or on the first day of school.

Freshman Orientation

Orientation for the freshman class runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 at Woodbury High School.

A bus schedule for that day has been mailed to the homes of all ninth-graders and is also available on the WHS website if a student needs transportation. Lunch can be purchased for $2 in the cafeteria.

Student planners will be available to purchase for $5 during orientation. Planners will also be available in the Guidance Office once school begins.

Emergency Information

An emergency health card has been mailed home for each student. Students and parents should complete this card and return it to school. Students may bring their card to any of the orientation sessions, or leave it in the attendance office during the summer. Once school begins, emergency health cards will be collected in the Health Office.

New Students

For students new to the area, an orientation is planned.  Students who will be new to Woodbury High School (incoming 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-graders) are invited to attend an orientation session that runs from 9-11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25 in the Media Center at Woodbury High School.

If a student receives Special Education assistance, the Woodbury High School Special Education Department will host a “Meet the Case Manager Night” from 4-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the Media Center at Woodbury High School.

Counseling Dept.

Do you have a ninth-grader and see a need to connect with the counseling department?

The Woodbury High School Counseling Department is scheduling individual student meetings for all incoming ninth-grade students. All ninth-graders and their parents/guardians are encouraged to come in for a 20-minute appointment to meet with their counselor.

Students should schedule their appointment with their specific counselor (assigned by last name) as soon as possible by visiting www.sowashco.k12.mn.us/whs.  Appointment times are also available by visiting the Attendance Office for those who wish to make their appointment in person.

Schedules

Beginning July 5, parents can access their Woodbury High School Student’s 2011-12 class schedule by logging on to the “Parent Portal.”

Be aware that officials continue to work on the school’s master schedule throughout the summer. While students’ class selections won’t change, the class period and teacher could change as the school balances class sizes.

A printed version of a student’s schedule will be mailed to the student’s primary address during the week of July 18.

Additional information regarding the schedule will also be posted in the message section of the Parent Portal, which can be accessed by going to the Woodbury High School Home page at www.sowashco.k12.mn.us/whs/ then selecting the “Parent” drop down menu.

Parents who do not have access to “Parent Portal” need to contact Student Information at 651-458-6218 or ICSupport@sowashco.k12.mn.us to activate their account.

Any student who needs to make an adjustment to their class schedule, should schedule an appointment with their counselor. Appointments for 10th-12th graders are available on the Woodbury High School website at www.sowashco.k12.mn.us/whs or students may come to the high school to view posted appointment times in the Attendance Office.

Each Woodbury High School student should have received a summer mailing dealing with orientation dates. Students who did not receive a letter should contact 651-768-4409 or visit the Woodbury High School website at www.sowashco.k12.mn.us/whs for additional information.
