Woodbury Athena Award Winners

The female student-athletes will be honored at a mid-April event.

Three students from Woodbury have earned 2013 Athena Awards.

They are among 39 young women from St. Paul and its surrounding suburbs who will be honored for their athletic achievements at a ceremony next month.

Kristina White

Kristina White, a student at Woodbury High School, is a three-sport athlete, excelling in basketball and soccer, and trailblazing in football as a kicker.

  • Two-time Pioneer Press All-State Team

In basketball, Kristina was a four-time letter winner, with three all-conference awards and one honorable mention. She was also part of AAU championship teams in 2009 and 2012.

As a soccer player, she earned one all-conference award and one honorable mention, along with being a captain.

Away from athletics, Kristina is a youth mentor and church volunteer, and was part of the Link Crew and SADD at Woodbury. She has also made the "A" honor roll and earned distinguished academic achievement awards.

She plans to attend the University of Vermont on a basketball scholarship.

Kristina is the daughter of Tim and Sharon White of Woodbury.

Elizabeth Marie Koprucki

Elizabeth Marie Koprucki, a student at East Ridge High School, is a four-year letter winner in soccer, earning all-conference honors three times and honorable mention once.

She was also a standout as an alpine skier—four-year letter winner, three all-conference awards and three all-state awards, along with a 2013 state championship.

Elizabeth, who is undecided on her post-graduation plans, has also volunteered with the Special Olympics and helps out with youth ski racing programs.

She also earned eight “Spotlight on Scholarship” recognitions (3.6-4.0 GPA) during her sports seasons.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Michael and Bonnie Kaprucki of Woodbury.

Sophia Schwartz

Sophia Schwartz, a student at Hill-Murray School, is a three-time letter winner in volleyball and basketball, along with two years in softball.

She was all-conference honorable mention in 2011 and 2012 in volleyball, where she was also captain in 2012.

She served as a student ambassador and is a member of the National Honor Society, along with earning an academic letter and academic all-state honors.

Sophia is the daughter of Mike and Judy Schwartz of Woodbury. She’s undecided on her post-graduation plans.

Event

The students will be honored at the St. Paul Area Athena Awards ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the Prom Center, 484 Inwood Ave. N., in Oakdale.

The keynote speaker for the St. Paul event is Rachel Blount, sports reporter and columnist for the Star Tribune.KARE 11 anchor Randy Shaver will again emcee this year’s ceremony, honoring each young woman and her specific achievements.

Now in its 19th year, the Athena Awards honor female athletes for their dedication and excellence in sports. The Athena Awards Committee is comprised of representatives of St. Paul city and suburban schools, parents of previous award winners, and business volunteers.
