Woodbury’s Kinderberry Hill to Offer Spanish Immersion Program

An open house is scheduled for next week.

Starting next fall, Kinderberry Hill in Woodbury will offer a Spanish immersion program.

Many children from the Woodbury Drive preschool have gone on to District 833’s Nuevas Fronteras school in Cottage Grove, said Kathy Sjursen, executive director at Kinderberry Hill.

“It’s definitely something we’ve been thinking about for quite some time,” she said.

Currently, Kinderberry Hill has a twice-weekly Spanish-enrichment program led by Adriana Kolodny, who will take over in a separate Spanish immersion classroom at the preschool next fall, Sjursen said.

Kolodny grew up in Brazil speaking Portuguese and has been fluent in Spanish for more than 15 years. She holds degrees in psychology and elementary education.

“Educating young children is my passion,” Kolodny said in a release. “I look forward to teaching in a Spanish immersion setting. ”

People will be able to meet Kolodny and tour Kinderberry Hill during an open house for the new Spanish immersion program, set for 4-6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25. The event will feature Spanish crafts and music.

The preschool will have a better sense of interest in the program following the open house, Sjursen said. Spanish immersion will likely be a three-days-a-week, half-day program at Kinderberry Hill, she said.

“We understand and recognize the benefits of children learning a second language,” Sjursen said.
