Woodbury’s Math and Science Academy Shows Off New Building

There are still a few items yet to complete, but students and staff "love it," according to Bob Kreischer, executive director.

There’s a little more elbow room these days at the Math and Science Academy in Woodbury.

Last year, the school was “overstuffed,” Bob Kreischer, executive director, said Thursday as the Math and Science Academy held a celebration of its new three-story building off Radio Drive.

Still, the already school is nearing capacity, Kreischer said, as it expects to push its enrollment to 450 from about 420 this year, its 15th. There is a waiting list for MSA.

There are a few items left to complete, most notably the gym and performance space, which will also be used as a cafeteria. Now, students are eating at their desks, Kreischer said.

The school year started a week late for the Math and Science Academy, but classes have been held at the new facility since Sept. 9.

So far, things have been “great” at the new building, Kreischer said Thursday, when dozens of people came through for tours, to hear a live band and check out the latest robot from the Fighting Calculators.

“Everybody’s very excited and glad to be in the new building,” he said.

The school’s original building was also spruced up as part of the project, and Kreischer said.
