Brush a Schnauzer's Teeth? Kids Try That and More at 'Mini Vet School'

They don't get a degree but they do get to keep the lab coat and stethoscope after an afternoon at Rivertown Animal Hospital in Stillwater.

Veterinary school usually takes four years beyond a Bachelor's degree. But Mini Vet School for Kids at Rivertown Animal Hospital in Stillwater takes only three hours on a Saturday afternoon.

And in that time, kids ages 7–12 get a firsthand look at what it's like to be a vet—from reading X-rays to listening to animals' heartbeats.

Dr. Ginger Garlie said Rivertown offers Mini Vet School twice a year, including this Saturday, Nov. 16, 2–5 p.m. Kids have come from across the Twin Cities to attend past sessions. Cost is $85. The next Mini Vet School will likely be in February, she said.
