After Injury, Woodbury MMA Fighter Ready for Next Bout

Woodbury fighter Kyle Todd will head back to the cage in March after recovering from an injury that sidelined him for a few months.

Todd, who wrestled at Woodbury High School, is an up-and-comer in the world of mixed martial arts, and last spring secured a local amateur title following a fight at the Target Center.

On March 23, at the High Five Bar and Grill in Burnsville, Todd will Branden Bell from Iron Works in La Crosse, Wis.

Woodbury Patch: What exactly was your injury? How did the recovery process go?

Kyle Todd: I tore my meniscus I in my left knee at a grappling tournament in Chicago. The recovery process was good. Still feeling the effects three months later but it’s getting better.

Patch: Anything different you’re doing with training for this bout?

Todd: Training is about the same as usual. Training out of Spartan Martial Arts five or six days a week under Tom Schmitz in Oakdale, and at Horsepower Strength and Conditioning four days a week in Fridley with Matt Miller.

Patch: What would a win in this fight mean for your MMA career?

Todd: A win will move me up in line for an eventual title shot at 155. My teammate Cameron Gilliam holds the title right now and we obviously won’t fight each other. So I will continue to get better till I get my shot.

Patch: What are your chances for a win?

Todd: My chances for a win are good. He’s a solid, well-rounded guy. But I feel I’m better than he is and should come out on top.
