Suicide Prevention Collaborative 5k Run/Walk

The Suicide Prevention Collaborative (SPC) is conducting its first annual fundraiser 5k run/walk Saturday, July 30, at Hamlet Park in Cottage Grove.

The SPC is a community-based group dedicated to preventing teen suicide in the eastern metropolitan area of the Twin Cities through education, awareness, collaboration, and advocacy. SPC is committed to increasing awareness about depression and other mental illnesses, the warning signs of suicide and the need for professional treatment.

Registration for the event is 8 a.m.; the walk starts at 9 a.m. The School of Rock’s Road Crew and The Human Empire will provide rock music. Fees for the walk before July 23 are $20 for those 18 and older; $10 for ages 5-17; those 4 and younger are free. T-shirts are included and there will be drawings for door prizes. All walkers and runners are welcome.

Members of SPC include local area teens and representatives from PrairieCare, Central Pediatrics, Faith-based Health and Wellness Network, Penticoff Community Counseling, Inc., Fuerst Child and Family Psychological Services, Counseling Psychologists of Woodbury, P.A., Sentier Psychotherapy, Youth Service Bureau, Inc., and Washington County Teen Health Fund.
