Local Squads Compete Against Elements, Rivals

Postponements, cancellations dot the schedule as winter conditions return to hamper spring sports season.

Doing the best that they can against wildly varying weather conditions, local athletic teams continued to compete in the early stages of their respective campaigns as the spring season continued despite being hampered by some wintry elements.

East Ridge vs. Woodbury Softball: Raptors 9, Royals 4

Behind Taylor LeMay's herculean effort, the softball team topped in their cross-town rivalry game on Monday by a 9-4 score.

LeMay went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and had five RBIs total for the ninth-ranked Raptors, while teammate Alyssa Ronquillo went 3-for-4 with two runs and Chris Shoemaker added three RBIs on two hits.

East Ridge, 2-1 overall, travels to Roseville on Thursday, as 0-3 Woodbury heads north to White Bear Lake; both games are scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m.

East Ridge Baseball: Raptors Improve to 6-0

With a 9-5 defeat of Cretin-Derham Hall on Monday, the East Ridge baseball team improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in Suburban East Conference play.

Mitch Luebbe, the game's winning pitcher, joined Andy Sammon with two hits and had two runs batted in each; Luebbe allowed the fourth-ranked Raiders two runs over six innings of work off the mound.

The Raptors are scheduled to travel to Mounds View on Wednesday for a 4:15 p.m. start.

Woodbury Baseball: Royals Win Third in a Row

After opening with two-straight losses, the Woodbury baseball team has won three in a row and has improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the Suburban East Conference after a 7-3 defeat of visiting Forest Lake on Monday. 

Pitcher Ryan Fritze took the win against the Rangers and improved to 2-1 on the year, with Jordan Lund earning the save. Offensively, Ryan Scanlon went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Chase Lonetti going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Woodbury is slated to travel to Stillwater for a 4:15 p.m. start on Wednesday.

New Life Softball: Eagles 12, Providence Academy 1

A 12-1 defeat of host Providence Academy improved the softball team to 4-1 on the season.

The Eagles turned a close game into a rout with an 11-run fifth inning as Valerie Hohol went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Rebekah Schmidt went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Schmidt pitched the win with 11 strikeouts and gave up four hits and no earned runs.

New Life is slated to travel to Heritage Christian Academy for a 4:15 p.m. game on Wednesday.

Woodbury/East Ridge Girls Lacrosse: Royal Raptors 16, Visitation/SPA 13

The Woodbury/East Ridge girls lacrosse team defeated visiting Visitation/St. Paul Academy, 16-13, on Monday evening to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Heading into the game, Sophia Bainbridge led the Royal Raptors with nine goals, with Ari Guanella notching four goals through the team's first two games.

Woodbury/East Ridge hosts Roseville on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

East Ridge/Park Boys Lacrosse: Co-op Team Wins First Of Season

The East Ridge/Park boys lacrosse team claimed its first win of the season, 10-3, versus visiting Holy Family Catholic on Monday.

Heading into the game, David Ferguson led the South Washington County squad with three goals and two assists.

East Ridge/Park travels to Stillwater for a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday.

East Ridge And Woodbury Girls Golf: Squads Compete At TPC Blaine

Both the East Ridge and Woodbury girls golf teams competed at the Irondale Invitational at the TPC Blaine Course on Monday.

The Raptors took seventh after carding a 371, with Woodbury placing eighth with a score of 385. Individual results were not available.

East Ridge Boys Tennis: Raptors 1-1 On Season

A 4-3 loss to Roseville evened the East Ridge boys tennis team's record at 1-1 following a 5-2 win over Park on April 14. Individual results were not available.

New Life Boys Golf: Eagles Seventh In MCAA Meet

The New Life Academy boys golf team took seventh in the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association meet at Inverwood Golf Course with a score of 197 on Monday. Individual results were not available.

New Life Baseball: Eagles Split Opening Pair

After topping Lester Prairie, 7-4, in the season opener last week, the New Life Academy baseball team fell to 1-1 with a 6-5 loss at Providence Academy on Monday. Individual statistics were not available.

Math And Science Academy Track and Field: Dragons Compete at Lakeville North Mega Meet

The track and field teams competed at the Lakeville North Mega Meet on Monday, with the boys taking eighth with 21 points and the girls placing 11th with three points.
