New Life Continues Postseason Roll

Eagles softball team 10-runs Minneapolis Washburn, 11-1, in Section 4A playoffs.

The three-time defending Class A softball team continued its postseason march toward a fifth-consecutive state tournament appearance by thumping Minneapolis Washburn, 11-1, in the Section 4A winner's bracket semifinals on Tuesday afternoon at the .

New Life scored all the runs it would need in the first inning. Amanda Heidmann and Katie Stodolka both crossed home plate on a pair of wild pitches—the second of which hit Natalie Schad—to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Washburn pushed across its lone tally of the game in the top of the second inning, yet left two runners in scoring position and never seriously threatened the Eagles again.

New Life pitcher Rebekah Schmidt, appearing almost mortal in the second inning by allowing a booming double and a pair of walks, did not give up another hit in the game in shutting down the Millers from there with 15 strikeouts in the contest.

The senior hurler also went 2-for-2 at the plate with a homerun as the Eagles won by the 10-run rule for the third time in as many sectional contests.

It was the final home game for New Life, who now advance to the winner's bracket final against No. 2 seed Maranatha Christian Academy.

The Mustangs advanced to face the Eagles with a 1-0 defeat of sixth-seeded St. Paul Humboldt on Tuesday behind pitcher Maddie Lee's one-hitter.

New Life defeated Minnesota Christian Athletic Association rival Maranatha, 5-0, in the one regular-season meeting between the clubs on April 28 in Brooklyn Park.
