Norsten Leads Woodbury Swimmers to State Finals

The Royals will have four events competing today, March 5, at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The and boys swimming and diving teams competed Friday at the Class AA state preliminary meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center, and the Royals sent four events on to Saturday’s state championships.

Gregory Norsten led the way for Woodbury by placing first in the 200 individual medley. He earned All-America Automatic status with a 1:52.05 finish.

Norsten also earned All-America Consideration by finishing second in the 100 butterfly prelims in 52.71 seconds.

Victor Lugg finished tied for third in the 50 freestyle at 21.43, and he also took second in the 100 freestyle with a 57.11 finish.

For East Ridge, the team’s 200 medley relay consisting of Sam Scholz, Justin Kong, Nate Rabideaux and Slate Barry finished 20th overall and did not qualify for Saturday’s meet.

Saturday’s state finals begin at 6 p.m. at the U of M Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.

200 IM: 1. Gregory Norsten (1:52.05-AAA). 50 freestyle: T3. Victor Lugg (21.43). 100 butterfly: 2. G. Norsten (52.71-AAC). 100 freestyle: 2. V. Lugg (57.11).
