East Ridge Softball: Hill-Murray 9, Raptors 4

With a 9-4 loss to Hill-Murray in the one-loss bracket semifinals of the Section 4AAA Tournament on Wednesday, the East Ridge softball team saw its spring season meet its conclusion at the McKnight Fields Complex in North St. Paul.

The Raptors fell from the winner's bracket with a 4-2 loss to top-seeded North St. Paul on May 26 and fell behind the Pioneers 7-0 by the fourth inning of its elimination game.

Alyssa Ronquillo and Taylor LeMay led a moderate East Ridge rally, with Ronquillo scoring twice and LeMay driving in two runs as the Raptors sliced their deficit to 7-4 in the sixth inning before Hill-Murray posted two more runs of its own and put the game away.

The defeat concluded East Ridge's spring with an 11-12 record.

The boys tennis season came to a close in the Sectional 3AA individual tournament as none of the Woodbury or East Ridge players that competed in the singles or doubles brackets qualified for the state tournament.

The seventh-seeded Royals doubles team of Jake Sajevic and Jason Lu went 3-2 in sectional play to finish fourth overall, while Woodbury's sixth-seeded single Dennis Zhou won two matches before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.

East Ridge singles Zekeria Nigatu and Vishaal Gupta each won one sectional match before falling.

Woodbury's single Matt Shubert and the doubles team of Zack Moore/Jan Groth, as well as the East Ridge duos of Wilmar Tropezado/Greg Sharrow and Brandon Hickey/Joaquinn Valdes also competed in the sectionals.
