Raptors Baseball Falls Into Tie Atop Conference Standings

East Ridge loses to fellow Suburban East contender Forest Lake on Wednesday night; Woodbury softball tops Mounds View.

With the weather cooperating just enough, several Woodbury teams were able to get in their mid-week games at both home and away on Wednesday and Thursday night.

East Ridge Baseball: Raptors Drop Two Straight, Fall into First-Place Tie in SEC

The baseball team lost 4-2 to Forest Lake on Wednesday and 5-2 to Mounds View on Thursday to drop into a first-place tie with the Rangers atop the Suburban East Conference standings.

Brad Schmit went 2-for-3, with Andy Sammon and Jack Leiviska both going 1-for-3 with one RBI against Forest Lake. Eric Alsides pitched his second complete game with six hits and two earned runs allowed in the loss.

Pitcher Mitch Luebbe gave up just one earned run in a complete-game five-hitter in the Mounds View loss as East Ridge mustered just five hits. Ryan Betz notched two hits and an RBI, with John Hietpas knocking in the other run.

East Ridge takes a 7-3 overall record and a 5-3 SEC mark into a scheduled game at Stillwater at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.

Woodbury Softball: Royals 7, Mounds View 5

A 7-5 defeat of Mounds View improved the softball team to 2-4 overall this spring.

The Royals iced the game with a six-run second inning, punctuated by Abbie Morris' bases-loaded, three-RBI triple; Morris also earned the win after pitching a complete game.

Alex Benedict had two hits and one RBI, with Chloe Richter tallying two RBIs in the victory. 

Woodbury plays at Cretin-Derham Hall at 4:15 p.m. on Friday before playing in the Shakopee Tournament on Saturday; the opening game is set for 10 a.m.

New Life Softball: Eagles 5, Maranatha 0

Rebekah Schmidt no-hit host Maranatha as the softball team won 5-0 in a Minnesota Christian Athletic Association matchup on Thursday.

Katie Stodolka went 2-for-3, with Lauren St. John going 2-for-4 at the plate for the Eagles. Schmidt struck out 16 Mustangs in the no-no with just one walk allowed.

New Life improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in MCAA play, with a game at Concordia Academy-Roseville at 4:15 p.m. on Monday next on the schedule.

East Ridge/Park Boys Lacrosse: SWC 11, Forest Lake 1

The East Ridge/Park boys lacrosse team upped its record to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the Suburban East with an 11-1 home win versus Forest Lake on Wednesday night.

David Ferguson, Tyler Varhol and Cameron Lyles each scored two goals apiece to lead South Washington County to the decisive victory. 

East Ridge/Park travels to Mounds View on Monday for 6:30 p.m. contest.

Woodbury Boys Lacrosse: Mounds View 5, Royals 4

A 5-4 loss to Suburban East rival Mounds View on Wednesday dropped the Woodbury boys lacrosse team to 1-3 on the season.

Blake Bergherr's five goals lead the Royals this spring, with Ben Alberts netting four goals.

Woodbury hosts Rochester Mayo at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Woodbury/East Ridge Girls Lacrosse: Mounds View 12, Griffins 4

The Woodbury/East Ridge girls lacrosse team dropped its first game of the season, 12-4, at Mounds View on Wednesday.

Sophia Bainbridge's 18 goals lead the team as the Griffins travel to Minneapolis Washburn to take on the Minneapolis Warriors all-city co-op team at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

East Ridge Softball: Hastings 11, Raptors 1

The East Ridge softball team ran into a buzzsaw on Wednesday, losing 11-1 at Hastings to fall to 3-3 this spring.

Taylor LeMay leads the Raptors with a .357 batting average and five RBIs, with Alyssa Ronquillo batting .353 with four runs scored.

East Ridge hosts Park in an intra-district rivalry game on Monday at 4:15 p.m.

Woodbury and East Ridge Girls Golf: Royals Second, Raptors Eighth at Highland National

The Woodbury girls golf team carded a 183, with East Ridge scoring a 203 to finish third and eighth, respectively, in a Suburban East meet at Highland National Golf Course in St. Paul on Thursday. Individual results were not available.

East Ridge Boys Golf: Raptors Tie for 14th at Brainerd Invite

The East Ridge boys golf team tied with Hastings for 14th at the Brainerd Invitational at the Preserve Golf Course on Thursday with a score of 330. Individual results were not available.

Woodbury and East Ridge Boys Tennis: Royals 5, Raptors 2

The Woodbury boys tennis team defeated East Ridge, 5-2, in a cross-town dual match on Thursday. Individual results were not available.

New Life Track/Field: Eagles Compete at SCL Invite

The New Life Academy track and field teams competed at the St. Croix Lutheran Invitational on Thursday, with the boys amassing 66 points to take third and the girls logging 20.5 points to take seventh. Individual statistics were not available.

New Life Baseball: Eagles Suffer Back-to-Back Shutouts

The New Life Academy baseball team went without a run scored in back-to-back shutouts to West Lutheran (10-0) and Maranatha (1-0) on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, to fall to 3-4 on the season. Individual results were not available.

New Life Boys Golf: Eagles Seventh at North Fork

Math and Science Track and Field: Dragons Girls, Boys Fifth at St. Croix Lutheran

The girls and boys track and field teams both finished fifth at the St. Croix Lutheran Invitational on Thursday, with the boys scoring 56 points and the girls claiming 42 points. Individual statistics were not available.

East Ridge Girls Track and Field: Raptors Second at Spartan Invite

The East Ridge girls track and field team was narrowly passed for first place by host Richfield at the Spartan Invitational on Thursday—with 177.5 points to the Spartans' 179.5 points. Nicole Ethier won the 400-meter dash (1:17 seconds) and 200-meter dash (26.94 seconds) and triple jump (34 feet, 1 inch), with Bailey Ness taking first in the 800-meter run (2:32.85), Nicolette Brown winning the shot put (33-7) and Kelsey Schnabel topping the high jump (4-10).

East Ridge Boys Track and Field: Raptors Fifth in Richfield

A score of 54 points was good for fifth place as the East Ridge boys track and field team competed at the Spartan Invitational in Richfield. Ali Elbasher claimed the Raptors' top individual finish with a second-place time of 23.91 in the 200-meter dash; Tedros Kifle was third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.24, as was Marcus Kelly in the shot put with a hurl of 39-2.
