Making up for the Labor Day holiday, athletic programs from Woodbury, East Ridge and New Life pack the calendar late last week.

Making up for the Labor Day holiday, athletic programs from , and packed the calendar late last week as squads delved into the heart of their respective seasons.

Woodbury Girls Swimming and Diving

The Woodbury girls swimming and diving team placed third behind state powers Edina and Stillwater in the Minneapolis South Invitational on Sept. 9 at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.

Emily Bonfig won the 1-meter diving, with Lauren Puglisi finishing second, In the pool, Mikayla Mayer took second in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 50-yard freestyle.

Following a 1-0 shutout of Park on Sept. 8 and a 2-0 loss at Edina on Sept. 10, the Woodbury girls soccer team brought a 4-2 record into this week's play. Maddie Gaffney claimed the Royals' goal against the Wolfpack.

Woodbury Boys Soccer

The 3-2 Woodbury boys soccer team claimed a 2-1 win at Park on Sept. 8, before losing 3-0 at sixth-ranked Minneapolis Southwest on Sept. 10. Individual statistics were not made available.

Woodbury Volleyball

With a championship in the Irondale Tournament on Sept. 10 earned on a 4-0 afternoon against FAIR Downtown, Simley, Park Center and Irondale, the Woodbury volleyball team improved to 5-2 on the season. 

Olivia Wangensteen leads the Royals with 34 kills and 30 digs, and Abyssinia Andualem-Emiru has 37 assists.

Woodbury Girls Tennis

The Woodbury girls tennis team topped Park, 6-1, on Sept. 8. Individual statistics were not made available.

Woodbury Cross-Country

The Woodbury boys and girls cross-country teams both placed third at the Dewey Minneart Invitational at the St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park on Sept. 8.

Taylor Voit took ninth in the boys race with a time of 17 minutes, 48.45 seconds on the 5-kilometer course as the Royals logged 95 points.

For the girls, Darby Baranick placed third 15:43.52, with Lauren Smith taking sixth in 16:00.32 in Woodbury's 98-point effort.

East Ridge Cross-Country

The East Ridge girls and boys cross-country teams took second and fifth, respectively, at the Minneart Invite.

The Raptor girls took 39 points, led by Bailey Ness' second-place time of 15:34.42; Brenley Goertzen placed fifth in 15:59.11 and Emily Betz took tenth in 16:05.62.

Nate Roese led the East Ridge boys to 113 points with a run of 17:22.94 to take fourth.

East Ridge Volleyball

The East Ridge volleyball team finished 13th in the Southwest Minnesota Challenge, losing to Canby in the finale to bring its record to 3-6 this fall. 

Felecia Ulrich leads the Raptors with 44 kills, as Dale Hoeffel's 20 digs and Kristen Jorgensen's 64 assists also topping the squad.

East Ridge Girls Soccer

Back to back 2-1 wins over Forest Lake (Sept. 8) and South St. Paul (Sept. 10) improved the East Ridge girls soccer team's record to 4-1. Individual statistics were not made available.

East Ridge Boys Soccer

The East Ridge boys soccer team closed out last week with a split, defeating Forest Lake 8-3 on Sept. 8 and losing to North St. Paul 3-2 on Sept. 10, to bring the squad's record to 3-4.

Through six games, Won Suk Chung leads the Raptors with seven goals, as Luke Featherstone has scored four times and Alec Fitts three times.

East Ridge Girls Tennis

The East Ridge girls tennis team lost 6-1 to Stillwater on Sept. 8 and to Red Wing on Sept. 12. Individual statistics were not made available.

New Life Girls Tennis

The New Life girls tennis team defeated St. Paul Humboldt 7-0 on Sept. 8 and St. Croix Lutheran 4-3 on Sept. 12 to bring its record to 4-6 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.

New Life Volleyball

The New Life Academy volleyball team went 3-1 at the Visitation Tournament to bring its record to 6-3 on the season.

Reagan Baar leads the Eagles with 42 kills and 23 aces, with Lauren Ruhr's 71 assists and Macayla Stone's 51 digs topping the team.

New Life Boys Soccer

The New Life boys soccer team sandwiched a 4-1 defeat of Maranatha on Sept. 9 with a 3-2 loss to South St. Paul on Sept. 8 and a 2-0 defeat against Legacy Christian on Sept. 12 to bring its record to 2-5-1 this year.

With two goals apiece, Daniel Sleper, Raleigh Becker, Dylan Larson and Daniel Otto share the Eagles scoring lead through eight games.

New Life Girls Soccer

A 3-0 win at West Lutheran on Sept. 8, combined with a 3-0 loss to Trinity School on Sept. 12, gave the New Life girls soccer team a 4-2-1 record. Individual statistics were not made available.

Results for the East Ridge girls swim/dive team were not made available.
