Raptors senior wraps high school career at championship ski meet; East Ridge, Woodbury boys hockey teams conclude regular seasons with victories.

The high school Nordic ski career of one East Ridge athlete came to close at the state meet; the Raptors joined Woodbury with boys hockey victories in their respective regular-season finales; and the New Life Academy girls basketball team advanced in its conference tournament on Thursday.

senior Tom Drtina claimed 96th place at the state Nordic ski meet in his final appearance for the Raptors at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, Minn.

Drtina logged a total pursuit time of 334 minutes, 8.6 seconds after accumulating results of 15:27 in the freestyle and 18:41.6 in the classical races.

East Ridge Boys Hockey: Raptors 3, Park 2

The East Ridge boys hockey team held on for a 3-2 victory against Suburban East and intra-district rival Park at the Cottage Grove Ice Arena in its regular-season finale.

Forward Kelvin Walz scored twice for the Raptors, with forward Alex Idso providing one tally, and goaltender Andrew McDonough made 25 saves to preserve the victory.

East Ridge finished off its second regular season with a 10-15 overall record and came in ninth in the SEC standings with an 8-13 record. The team now awaits its seed for the upcoming Section 3AA playoffs, slated to begin next Tuesday.

Woodbury Boys Hockey: Royals 4, Mounds View 2

The boys hockey team clinched at least a .500 record for the season with a 4-2 win at Mounds View in its final regular season contest.

Forward Matt Pederson scored twice for the Royals, with forwards Chase Myers-Beck and Evan Erickson each lighting the lamp once as goaltender Zach Moore made 23 saves to preserve the victory.

Woodbury improved to 13-12 with the win and concluded SEC play with a sixth-place record of 8-10 in the circuit.

The Royals now also await word of their Section 3AA seeding, with the second season set to commence next Tuesday.

New Life Girls Basketball: Eagles 38, Maranatha 28

The girls basketball team defeated Maranatha 38-28 in the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association playoffs to improve to 17-6 on the season.

Rallying from an 18-16 halftime deficit for the win, the Eagles, 10-1 in the MCAA this season, got a game-high 13 points from guard Rebekah Schmidt as forwards Cara Lutes and Reagan Baar chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
