Sports Roundup: Raptors Win St. Olaf Showcase

East Ridge girls claim sizable win in Northfield on Saturday.

Running on the same Northfield course as where the state meet will be held in just over a month, the girls cross-country team won the St. Olaf High School Showcase on Saturday.

East Ridge Cross-Country

Led by Bailey Ness' fourth-place time of 15 minutes, 17 seconds over 4,000 meters, the East Ridge girls cross-country time ran away with the St. Olaf Showcase title, winning by 76 points with a score of 101.

Brenley Goertzen (15:35) took 15th, Emily Betz (15:47) finished 25th, Taylor Jackson (15:57) was 28th and Elizabeth Maatta (15:58) was 29th to round out the Raptors scoring.

The East Ridge boys took 14th on the 5,000-meter course, with Nate Roese (16:55) taking 15th and Ryan Schiferl (17:05) in 26th.

Woodbury Cross-Country

Paced by Lauren Smith's eighth-place run of 15:27, the girls cross-country team took fourth at St. Olaf on Saturday with 189 points; Darby Baranick (15:41) finished 20th.

Taylor Voit led the Woodbury boys to an eighth-place result, finishing in a time of 17:02.

East Ridge Girls Swimming and Diving

The East Ridge girls swimming and diving team defeated visiting Forest Lake 93-85 last Thursday in a Suburban East Conference dual meet.

Sweeping the three relays, the Raptors claimed first place in 11 of 12 events, including individual wins from: Rachel Treadway (2:05.71) in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, Marissa Burleigh (2:30.30) in the 200-yard individual medley, Madeline Peters in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle (26:45), Jenna Karrow (209.05) in 1-meter diving, Melanie Rabino in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.

Woodbury Girls Swimming and Diving

The Woodbury girls swimming and diving team defeated No. 10-ranked Mounds View 53-49 last Thursday in an SEC dual.

Claiming win in two of three relays, the Royals also earned individual wins in six events: Kasey Bosch in the 100-yard breaststroke, Sheri Li in the 200 free, Mikayla Mayer in the 50 and 100 free, Red Puglisi in diving and Marina Rizzo in the 500 free.

East Ridge Girls Soccer

The East Ridge girls soccer team topped sixth-ranked Eastview 1-0 last Saturday to improve to 6-2 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available. 

Woodbury Girls Soccer

A second and third straight shutout improved the Woodbury girls soccer team to 7-2 on the season and gave the Royals a No. 7 ranking in the state entering this week.

Woobury blanked Bloomington Jefferson 4-0 last Saturday, then on Monday. Individual statistics were not made available. 

Woodbury Boys Soccer

The Woodbury boys soccer team fell to 4-4 on the year with back-to-back 2-1 losses to Hudson (Wis.) and Wayzata on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Individual statistics were not made available. 

Woodbury Volleyball

Four wins on Saturday gave the Woodbury volleyball team the championship of the Irondale Tournament and boosted the Royals record to 5-2 this year. Individual statistics were not made available. 

East Ridge Volleyball

The East Ridge volleyball team lost its third-straight 0-3 match against Moorhead on Saturday to fall to 3-8 on the year. Individual statistics were not made available. 

New Life Football

The football team lost 40-7 to Providence Academy on Friday night, dropping the Eagles to 1-2 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available. 

New Life Volleyball

A four-game match victory against Legacy Christian Academy last Thursday improved the New Life volleyball team to 7-3 on the season.

Ally Lamb and Abby Thor led the Eagles with 10 kills each against Legacy, with Renee Barrett's 10 digs, and Matty Steele's five service aces also pacing the team.

New Life Girls Soccer

The New Life girls soccer team improved to 5-2-1 with an 8-0 defeat of Bethany Academy last Thursday. Goalkeeper Theresa Baranick earned the shutout in nets.

New Life Boys Soccer

Daniel Otto's two goals led the New Life boys soccer team to a 6-0 blanking of Bethany last Thursday. Goalie Tim Kesting earned the clean sheet.
