Sports Roundup: Robinette Medals Twice at State

East Ridge junior takes fourth in vault, parallel bars in Class AA gymnastics meet; several Raptors, Royals swimmers and wrestlers qualify for state meets on Saturday.

junior Leah Robinette claimed a pair of fourth-place finishes to headline a big Saturday of events for local squads. Several members of the and East Ridge wrestling and swimming/diving teams qualified individually for their respective state meets.

East Ridge Gymnastics: Robinette Takes Two Fourths At State

En route to an 11th-place finish in the Class AA all-around competition, the Raptors' leading gymnast, Leah Robinette, took two trips to the medal stand after claiming fourth-place results in both the uneven parallel bars and vault competitions at the state individual championship meet at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion.

Robinette scored a 9.725 on vault and a 9.65 on parallel bars to earn two yellow-ribbon medals and recorded a total score of 38.15 in the all-around.

Woodbury/East Ridge Wrestling: Royals Send Two, Raptors One, To State Meet

Two members of the Woodbury wrestling team joined one grappler from East Ridge in qualifying individually for the state Class AA tournament.

The Royals will be represented at state by freshman Justin Herold-Plakut and eighth-grader Ben Donnelly.

Herold-Plakut takes a 38-2 record into the state 112-pound bracket and will take on Buffalo's Cedric Jimenez in the opening round that begins at 1 p.m. Friday.

Donnelly heads to state with a 33-7 record at 130 pounds and is slated to take on Bloomington's Hugo Felix in his state opener.

Bachmann becomes the first Raptor to qualify for state after the senior 171-pounder amassed a 30-7 record heading into the Class AAA meet; he takes on Lakeville South's Eric Hensel in his first match at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Woodbury/East Ridge Boys Swimming/Diving: Royals' Norsten, Lugg to Join Raptors 200-Yard Medley Relay Team at State

Woodbury juniors Greg Norsten and Victor Lugg will join the East Ridge 200-yard medley relay at the Class AA State Boys Swimming and Diving Meet, held March 3-5 at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.

Norsten qualified for state in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly events, with Lugg making the Class AA standard in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races.
