Sports Roundup: Royals Girls Hoops, Raptors Gymnasts Win On Thursday

New Life Academy basketball squads both rout Southwest Christian.

It was a winning night for the New Life Academy girls and boys basketball teams, both of which claimed convincing wins over Southwest Christian, and the Woodbury girls hoopsters and East Ridge gymnasts also tasted victory on Thursday.

Woodbury Girls Basketball: Royals 55, Hastings 20

The girls basketball team pulled within one-half game of the lead in the Suburban East Conference with a 55-20 win at Hastings.

It was over nearly from the start as the Royals powered out of the gate en route to a 30-7 halftime lead before winning by 35 points.

Eight Woodbury players scored in all, led by guard Michelle Young's 20-point night.

The Royals next take on Edina in a game scheduled to be played at East Ridge at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

East Ridge Gymnastics: Raptors 140.65, Mounds View 131.875

The gymnastics team defeated Mounds View, 140.65-131.875, with Leah Robinette claiming the all-around individual title after posting a score of 37.025.

Woodbury Boys Hockey: Forest Lake 3, Royals 2

A 3-2 loss at Forest Lake dropped the Woodbury boys hockey team to 11-10 overall and 6-8 in the SEC.

The Royals trailed throughout as goals from Matt Pederson and Chase Myers-Beck were not enough to counteract the hosts' three-goal attack.

Woodbury hosts Park at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the .

East Ridge Boys Hockey: Roseville 3, Raptors 1

The East Ridge boys hockey team could not recover from a three-goal deficit in the first period in a 3-1 loss at Roseville.

Alex Idso logged the Raptors lone tally in the second period as his squad fell to 7-13 overall and 3-11 in the Suburban East with the loss.

East Ridge next hosts Forest Lake at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

New Life Girls Basketball: Eagles 71, Southwest Christian 33

A 71-33 win at Southwest Christian improved the girls basketball team to 13-6 overall and 6-1 in Minnesota Christian Athletic Association play.

Rebekah Schmidt scored 20 points, with Reagan Baar and Cara Lutes chipping in 19 points each.

New Life hosts Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday.

New Life Boys Basketball: Eagles 68, Southwest Christian 47

The New Life Academy boys basketball team routed Southwest Christian, 68-47, to improve to 5-10 on the season and 3-4 in the MCAA.

Ten Eagles scored in all, with Sam Berg and James Houseworth pacing the offense with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

New Life travels to Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity for a 7:30 p.m. start next Tuesday.

Woodbury Wrestling: White Bear Lake 60, Royals 21

The Woodbury wrestling team lost 60-21 to White Bear Lake. Individual results were not available.
