Sports Roundup: Royals Top River Falls in Boys Basketball

Woodbury boys basketball team wins border battle; East Ridge swimming and diving team defeats Woodbury.

It wasn't the busiest of Tuesdays on the local sports docket, yet there were still several competitions of note, highlighted by the Woodbury boys basketball team's border-battle victory and the East Ridge boys swimming and diving squad earning in-town bragging rights.

Woodbury Boys Basketball:Royals 77, River Falls (Wis.) 59

The boys basketball team improved to 8-10 overall with a 77-59 defeat of River Falls (Wis.) in "The Lion's Den."

Royals guard Rickey Suggs led all scorers 21 points, while forward Connor McKeen logged 20 points. Forward Michael Policano and guard Tyler Graves chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Woodbury travels to Stillwater for a 7:15 p.m. start on Friday.

East Ridge/Woodbury Boys Swimming and Diving: Raptors 93, Royals 91

The boys swimming and diving team claimed a 93-91 defeat of cross-town rival Woodbury in a Suburban East Conference dual meet at Lake Middle School. Individual results were not available. For a photo gallery of the meet, click here.

East Ridge Boys Hockey: Stillwater 2, Raptors 1

Stillwater managed to hold off the East Ridge boys hockey team 2-1 in an SEC matchup to drop the Raptors to 8-14 overall and 4-12 in conference play.

Forward Kelvin Walz scored at 2:37 of the third period after the Ponies tallied goals in the first and second periods, yet the Raptors could not get any closer in the one-goal loss.

East Ridge hosts intra-district rival Woodbury at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night in the Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

New Life Girls Basketball: Eagles 60, Lester Prairie 39

The girls basketball team topped Lester Prairie, 60-39, at home to improve to 14-6 overall and 7-1 in the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association.

Forward Cara Lutes led all scorers with 25 points, while guard Rebekah Schmidt and forward Reagan Baar recorded 15 and 10 points, respectively.

New Life travels to Trinity at River Ridge for a 7:30 p.m. start on Thursday.

New Life Boys Basketball: Lester Prairie 64, Eagles 35

A 64-35 loss at Lester Prairie dropped the New Life Academy boys basketball team to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in the MCAA.

Forwards Alex Heiser, Dan Otto and James Housworth tied for the Eagles' scoring lead with six points apiece.

New Life hosts Trinity at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
