East Ridge hoopsters sweep Hastings as New Life girls cagers win MCAA Tournament opener.

A home win over Cretin-Derham Hall kept the Woodbury girls basketball team on pace in the Suburban East Conference race, while the East Ridge hoopsters swept Hastings and the New Life girls cagers began their Minnesota Christian Athletic Association Tournament run in triumphant manner on Tuesday.

Woodbury Girls Basketball: Royals 52, Cretin-Derham Hall 40

A 52-40 home win over Cretin-Derham Hall kept the girls basketball team one game behind conference-leading White Bear Lake as the Royals and Bears are scheduled to meet on Friday night.

Michelle Young led the Royals with 11 points in the win over Cretin, with center Ashley Sha logging 10 points as Woodbury improved to 17-5 overall and 13-2 in the Suburban East.

Woodbury travels to White Bear Lake in a game that will decide the conference championship at 7:15 p.m. Friday; the Royals lost by one point to the Bears (14-1 in the SEC) in a game earlier this season.

East Ridge Boys Basketball: Raptors 55, Hastings 51

The boys basketball team claimed a narrow 55-51 home win against Hastings to improve to 12-9 overall and 6-7 in the SEC.

Adam Schwartz led all scorers with 19 points, while Raptors teammate Dayo Idowu notched 11 points in the victory.

East Ridge moved into sixth-place conference tie with the win and hosts Cretin at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

East Ridge Girls Basketball: Raptors 55, Hastings 42

Hannah Pignato scored a game-high 23 points as the East Ridge girls basketball team stayed out of the SEC cellar with a 55-42 win at Hastings.

Katie Hagberg joined her Raptors teammate Pignato with a double-digit scoring effort in putting up 14 points in the victory as East Ridge upped its record to 6-17 overall and 2-13 in the SEC.

East Ridge travels to Cretin for a 7:15 p.m. start on Friday.

New Life Girls Basketball: Eagles 60, Legacy Christian 33

The girls basketball team opened MCAA tourney play with a 60-33 home win over Legacy Christian behind a game-high 18 points from Rebekah Schmidt, 16 points from Mikayla Diers and 11 points from Reagan Baar.

The Eagles improved to 16-6 overall with the win and are now 9-1 in MCAA play.

Woodbury Boys Basketball: Cretin-Derham Hall 66, Royals 59

A 66-59 loss at Cretin-Derham Hall dropped the Woodbury boys basketball team to 8-12 overall and 6-7 in the SEC.

Renard Suggs led the Royals with 14 points, with Connor McKeen scoring 13 points and both Ryan Fritze and Mike Policano recording 12 points each.

Woodbury hosts White Bear Lake at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

New Life Boys Basketball: St. Anthony 64, Eagles 48

The New Life Academy boys basketball team fell to 5-13 overall with a 64-48 loss at non-conference opponent St. Anthony.

Alex Heiser was the lone Eagle to record double-digits in scoring with 17 points as New Life could not dig itself out of a 38-23 halftime deficit in suffering the defeat.

The Eagles travel to Bethlehem Academy for a 7:30 p.m. game Monday.
