Sports Roundup: Woodbury Girls Win Sectional Opener

Royals blank Cretin-Derham Hall, will face neighboring East Ridge in 4AA semifinals Saturday.

Woodbury Girls Soccer

A 3-0 defeat of seventh-seeded Cretin-Derham Hall in the opening round of the Section 4AA Tournament pushed the second-seeded Woodbury girls soccer team into a semifinal matchup versus No. 3 seed East Ridge at 7 p.m. Saturday night.

Individual statistics were not made available from the sectional quarterfinal victory. Woodbury and met in last year's sectional semis, with the Royals claiming a 1-0 lead after losing 1-0 to the Raptors in a regular season game.

This season, Woodbury defeated East Ridge, 1-0, on Sept. 1. The Royals are currently ranked No. 4 in Class AA.

Woodbury Volleyball

The Woodbury volleyball team won its Suburban East Conference finale on Thursday, claiming a five-game (25-19, 19-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-10) match victory at Forest Lake to earn a fourth-place finish in the circuit.

Following an appearance in the Eastview Tournament this weekend, the Royals will close out the regular season at home versus Rosemount on Tuesday night.

East Ridge Volleyball

A five-game loss (14-25, 27-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-9) to Stillwater in its Suburban East finale dropped the East Ridge volleyball team into sixth-place in the final conference standings with a 4-5 circuit record.

The Raptors will also be competing in the Eastview Tournament, then closing out the regular season at Edina on Tuesday night.
