Winter Sports Season Comes to an End in Woodbury

East Ridge, Woodbury and New Life boys basketball teams fall in sectionals; Eagles lose sectional title game to Maranatha.

While the remaining snow and chilly temperatures would suggest otherwise, the winter season officially came to an end in Woodbury this weekend as local basketball teams were all defeated in their respective sectional playoff contests on Friday and Saturday evenings.

New Life Girls Basketball: Maranatha 44, Eagles 37

The girls basketball team was stopped one game short of a return to the state tournament as the top-seeded Eagles were upset 44-37 by Maranatha in the Section 4A final on Friday night at Hamline University.

East Ridge Boys Basketball: Roseville 91, Raptors 81

A 91-81 loss at Roseville in the opening round of the Section 4AAAA playoffs on Friday night ended the boys basketball team's season with its first over-.500 record of 14-13.

The Raptors battled, but could not quite keep pace with their hosts, coming up five points short of the Raiders in each half to lose by 10.

Justin Pahl led East Ridge with 25 points, while John Hietpas, Dillon Johnson and Adam Schwartz chipped in 17, 14 and 11 points, respectively.

New Life Boys Basketball: Heritage 57, Eagles 50

The New Life Academy boys basketball team was taken down in its second-round Section 4A matchup on Saturday night, losing by a score of 57-50 at Heritage Christian Academy.

Alex Heiser led the Eagles with 15 points and was the only New Life player to amass a double-digit scoring night as the hosts won both halves en route to the seven-point decision.

The loss left New Life's final winter record at 10-16.
