Woodbury Athletes Compete in Special Olympics

Minnesota Special Olympics Holds Fall Games at Bielenberg

Hundreds of athletes and their teams, including Woobury's own Blazing Stars, participated this weekend in the Minnesota Special Olympics Fall Games.  

This year's event was held at several different locations, including Oak Marsh Golf Course in Oakdale, the Northwest Saddle Club in North Branch and the , which hosted the bocce ball and softball competition.

Heather Patterson, representing the Blazing Star club, said the group is based at the Woodbury YMCA and has members of all ages. In fact, participants in the Fall Games ranged from ages 8 to 58 according to Patterson.

The Blazing Stars have three different softball teams based on ability and age, and had about 20 bocce ball players competing in this weekend's events.
