Woodbury Girls Basketball Team Loses Winter Wonderland Finale

Royals come out flat in tournament title game, lose by six points to North St. Paul.

This wasn't the way the girls basketball team would have preferred to enter the holiday break.

After a to the annual Winter Wonderland Tournament, the Royals lost 45-39 to North St. Paul in the finale at "The Lion's Den" on Wednesday night.

The Polars kept Woodbury at arm's length throughout much of the contest, leading by three points at half before winning by six at the final horn.

Royals guard Michelle Young again led her team with 19 points and was the only Woodbury player to crack the double-digit mark in scoring. High score honors for the game went to North center Lisa Loeffler, who logged 20 points.

The loss dropped Woodbury to 6-2 on the season. Coach Dave Preller's squad is now off until 2011, when the Royals restart Suburban East Conference play at home against Hastings on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

The Raptors cagers travel to St. Paul Harding for a 12:30 p.m. tip-off, while the skaters host Henry Sibley at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.
