Woodbury Marching Band to Perform at Vikings Game

The Royals marching band will play at halftime of the Sept. 22 game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Woodbury High School marching band will perform at halftime of the Minnesota Vikings home opener against the Cleveland Browns.

The game is set for noon Sunday, Sept. 22, at Mall of America Field.

Vikings season ticket holders have told the front office they wanted to see a high school band on the field for games, said Tark Katzenmeyer, band director for Woodbury.

Woodbury sent in the last three years of performance videos before being selected, he said.

Team officials told Katzenmeyer a high school band hasn’t performed during a Vikings home game since 2001.

“The students are excited to perform in the largest venue in our state,” Katzenmeyer said.

The band plans to go with its Led Zeppelin routine, featuring Immigrant Song, Stairway to Heaven and Whole Lotta Love.

Between now and Sept. 22, the marching band will be “ramping up the intensity” at practice, Katzenmeyer said, and plans to finish its performance at the game with Skol Vikings and form a “V.”

“We’re morphing the Woodbury ‘W’ to a Vikings ‘V,’” he said.
