Woodbury's Fritz Wins Two Medals At Special Olympics World Event

Kristina Fritz, 33, won the silver medal in the 400 meter walk and the bronze in the 800 meter walk

Woodbury native earned two medals at the Special Olympics 2011 World Summer Games in Athens, Greece, from June 25-July 4.

The 33-year-old Fritz competed in the track and field games for Team USA. She took home the silver medal in the 400-meter walk, finishing in 2:16.13. She also took home the bronze medal in the 800-meter walk, finishing in 5:02.89 seconds.

Fritz is one of eight athletes and two coaches from Minnesota selected to the Team USA roster. Approximately 300 athletes from all 50 states and the District of Columbia competed on the team in different athletic events—ranging from bowling and canoeing to basketball and volleyball.

It is the 13th annual Special Olympics World Summer Games. Approximately 7,000 athletes from 180 nations competed in the 22 sports.
