Demolition Work at Woodbury's Bielenberg Sports Center

The construction is the latest step toward a new $21.8 million facility.

Site grading, pond draining and lobby demolition at the Bielenberg Sports Center took place Tuesday, May 7.

The work marks the latest phase in Woodbury's $21.8 million BSC expansion project, which calls for a new field house, two-story lobby, plaza and outdoor rink, along with other upgrades.

The existing ice arenas will remain (but see improvements), and people are asked to enter through the west rink doors. Bielenberg staff is operating out of the skate-sharpening area, according to this week's report from the city administrator.

Woodbury marked the construction with a dome-deflation ceremony last month, though the bubble had to be briefly re-inflated due to weather.

The expected opening date for the new facility is the first quarter of 2014.
