Nearly 30 Years of Softball for Woodbury Team… One Interesting Trophy

The team is coming together again this year for annual Huff n' Puff Days softball tournament.

As a 17-year-old, Woodbury resident Karen Johnson and her high school friends played in the Huff n’ Puff Days softball tournament.

They’re playing again in 2012, and will begin their 28th year of participating in the annual event tonight, Thursday, Aug. 9.

About two-thirds of that original squad comes together for the softball tournament, said Johnson, co-owner of Johnson Jewelers of Woodbury, which now sponsors the team. (Their first sponsor Lampert Lumber.)

Johnson plays second base—“Always have, always will,” she said—and the team, mostly comprised of former Tartan High School athletes, enjoys seeing each other for Huff n’ Puff Days.

“We make the most of the tournament,” Johnson said. “We’re drinking the entire time, so if we make it to Sunday, it’s pretty rough.”
