Starbucks Plans, Dickey’s Fire, Library vs. Jail Bookings: Editor’s Notebook
Here are a few items that came across my desk lately.
Following is a roundup of news and notes from Woodbury this week.
A dumpster fire broke out at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Woodbury a little after 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21.
An employee placed hot ashes in the dumpster, which was in a room inside the building, said Woodbury Fire Cmdr. John Wallgren.

The item is set to go before the Planning Commission on May 6 and the City Council on May 22, according to Janelle Schmitz, Woodbury planning and economic development manager.
Library vs JailChad Lubbers, manager of the R.H. Stafford Library in Woodbury, gave an update on the latest happenings at the branch during Wednesday night’s City Council meeting.
He said there’s an informal competition between county agencies to see which has the most popular page on the Washington County website.
Lubbers was pleased to report that the library system is No. 1, followed by the daily jail bookings page.
Quipped Councilman Christopher Burns: “Perhaps not the same audience.”
High School RanksWoodbury High School came in at No. 16 on a list of best high schools in the state from U.S. News and World Report.
The Math and Science Academy was ranked at No. 22, and East Ridge High School was No. 36.

Someone on our Facebook page asked:
Anyone know what happens if the fields are not ready for the spring sports for preschool? My son is signed up for soccer and T-ball through the rec league, which is scheduled to start on May 6.
I forwarded the question to Elizabeth Owens, recreation technician. Her response:
If fields are still closed, Pee Wee Sports will take place indoors in the gym at Valley Crossing Community School. If a location change were to happen, all participants would be notified through email regarding the location change.
With the weather set to take a turn for the better, it hopefully won’t be a problem.
Also from our Facebook page this week, the question was posed:
Looking for recommendations for a wedding reception on a tight budget. Any suggestions?
