Woodbury Asks Residents to Ready for Fall Maintenance

The city’s plans to begin fall maintenance activities in Woodbury neighborhoods on Monday, Sept. 10.

Street sweeping will start that day and continue for about five working days between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., weather permitting.

The city is asking that residents remove vehicles and items—such as portable basketball hoops—from streets while the work is going on.

“Street sweeping is done to remove garbage, accumulated dirt and sand, and other material before it is washed into the storm sewer,” reads a release on the city’s website. “Removing the material while it is still on the street is more efficient than removing this material from storm water ponds and helps protect water quality in city lakes and wetlands.”

Provided the street sweeping goes as scheduled, hydrant flushing will begin the week of Sept. 17.

Dead-end water lines, such as those in cul-de-sacs, will be flushed to ensure the hydrants are operating properly. The project is expected to take about four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Though flushing may occasionally discolor the water for a few minutes, it is safe to drink. Residents may want to check for signs of discoloration before using the water to wash clothes, particularly white clothes, according to the release.
